Be sensible when you are exercising during pregnancy

If you are new to exercise, don’t try to exercise at the same intensity or level as someone who has been working our regularly for years. You should not take up intensive new activities, such as running, if you have never done them before. The key is to listen to your body and work at your own pace.

Remember these points:

  • Don’t exercise to the point of exhaustion
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes and good quality trainers
  • Wear a properly fitting sports bra – no flopping about!
  • Make sure you don’t overheat
  • Stay well hydrated; drink plenty of water
  • Make sure you do not exercise on an empty stomach or straight after eating
  • Do not exercise in extreme heat or humidity or run on very rough, hilly ground.
