My second pregnancy diary

On these pages you can read my second pregnancy and birth diary. I have included my measurements each week, photos and some notes that focus particularly on how much exercise I did that week, how my body was changing and how I was feeling. See how I fit in a full time job, part time fitness instructing, exercise and looking after a 2 year old!!

I haven’t included measurements for my thighs, calves, biceps and chest as they didn’t really change that much (more or less an inch on each). Waist is the thinnest part above bump below boobs. I’ll also write about my first nine weeks after having the baby and how my body changes during that time. Photos start at week 7 and green text shows change that week. Weight changes are shown in pounds, measurements in inches.

Week 5

Weight: 8st 10 (122lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 0
Waist: 26
Hips: 31
Bum: 35

NB: I am actually posting this at 20 weeks + so I know everything is ok….(at least I really hope it will be).

Notes: Had a couple of light runs, did 3 resistance sessions and a quick go on the cross trainer. Keeping pace moderate compared to my usual high intensity!
Body: No changes yet (would be surprised if there was!) but had the odd little light cramp in my pelvis (which obviously terrifies me – am a worrier!) Also boobies been a bit achy on and off and feel a bit like I have a tiny bit of sick in the back of my throat – lush! Like a permanent hangover! Bit tired, but has been quite hot and humid so that doesn’t help.
What else? Am over the moon to be pregnant again! We really wanted to have a brother or sister for Elise so am chuffed to bits. Feel very lucky and blessed. Only told very close family (the ones that will notice when I am not drinking my usual quota of wine!), definitely going to wait until we know everything is ok to share any more widely. Lots going through my head, but am going to try and put it all out of my head for a few weeks and cross fingers that all is well in there. Exercise wise, no change really other than losing the really high intensity stuff.

Week 6

Weight: 8st 10 (122lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 0
Waist: 26
Hips: 31
Bum: 35

Notes: Sticking to normal routine, did 3 resistance sessions again, a run and a sesh on the cross trainer /bike. Keeping runs just under an hour and at a ‘jogging’ rather than ‘running’ pace just so I don’t exhaust myself. That feels right for me this week, which is the most important thing.
BodyFelt tired again this week, but then we did have a 2 year birthday party with lots of family and the in-laws so has been a bit crazy! Still been hot and sticky which makes you more tired anyway. Again, clearly no changes in appearance yet, but excited about what’s ahead – I loved watching my body change last time.
What else? Still sooooooooo excited – very hard not to think about it too much (dates, work, house moves, practical stuff etc!) I am still frightened something will happen. I had a very early miscarriage quite recently (one of those that happens in the first 5 or 6 weeks to lots of women for no real reason other than something probably wrong with baby) which was very upsetting and has obviously stayed with me a bit. Doctor said it should have no bearing whatsoever on this pregnancy, but I still panic with every twinge. As long as everything is OK in a few weeks hopefully I can relax and just enjoy the journey. Don’t ever think that exercise causes miscarriage – you can read my post about this – unfortunately some pregnancies just aren’t meant to be. Whatever stage though is devastating for everyone.

Pregnancy Week 7

Week 7

Weight: 8st 10 (122lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 0
Waist: 26
Hips: 31
Bum: 35

Notes: I am feeling more confident running now after feeling a bit nervous the first 2 weeks, even though I know is safe! Building in some walking breaks when the weather is really warm though. Family ‘checking’ still ok to exercise – of course it is – told them to read my book!
Body: My boobies still a bit achy and still feeling tired. Also, bit of sickness this week. Haven’t actually been sick, but feel it in the back of my throat a bit. Convinced I have a belly already but it’s probably just wind!
What else? Feels like every week is a little win at the moment – another little milestone when everything is ok (I hope!) I don’t think it has really started to sink in yet that it’s actaully happening, but still very early days so plenty of time to get head around it. I bought some lush burgundy skinny jeans in the M&S sale so must be still in denial! The main thing this week has been the tiredness. Is hard when I am at home because I need to make sure am still doing lots with Elise and she isn’t missing out. Had more time to relax first time around! I can’t wait to tell her, I hope she’ll be happy as a big sister – eek! I told my boss this week – was nice to share! Thought it was best as am feeling a bit dickie, plus we are good friends so nice to be able to talk about it.

Pregnancy Week 8

Week 8

Weight: 8st 10 (122lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 0
Waist: 26
Hips: 31
Bum: 35

Notes: Really enjoyed my run this week. Weather was really hot at the weekend so I went on my cross trainer instead, need to be very careful about overheating. I did my 3-plan exercises twice and a 30 minute kettlebell workout for a bit of a change. Really gets the heart and lungs going too – great full body moves.
Body: Been feeling quite sickly for most of this week which has been a bit unpleasant. No actual vomiting, but have come close a couple of times – on the bus and in a presentation at work. Hard because no one knows yet. I am very bloated and horribly constipated, but no noticeable body changes yet.
What else? The tiredness hasn’t been as bad this week, but it has been overtaken by constant nausea! Work has been really busy so it has been pretty tiring all round. Still feeling very happy with every week that passes, still very worried about something going wrong. Feeling very hungry (plus when I’m eating I don’t feel sick!) Trying to go for fruit and healthy snacks, but not always what you fancy! Trying to listen to what my body wants too. Really enjoying my exercise as that seems to alleviate the nausea. Also makes me feel in control and gives me a boost.
Pregnancy week 9

Week 9

Weight: 8st 10 (122lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 0
Waist: 26
Hips: 31
Bum: 35

Notes: Managing to keep up a good balance of 2-3 resistance sessions (3-Plan or DVD) and 2 jogs. Really pleased have found my pregnancy running confidence! Jogging feels absolutely fine, no aches or twinges; keeping it moderate and steady for 40-50 mins a time (around 10 miles a week).
Body: Nausea is getting steadily worse – has been hardest week so far. It was much milder with first pregnancy. Maybe it means I am having a boy this time? Who knows. Definite bloating, slight bump, not that anyone would notice. Have had a stinking cold which has knocked me for six, on top of feeling tired and sick already. Again, nothing noticeable body-wise although of course I am convinced I have got bigger already!
What else? Quite a hard week – very busy at work, Cris has been doing long hours, me and Elise have both had a cold and have had constant nausea! Thankfully we are on holiday next week so we can have a rest – I feel like I just need a bit of downtime from all the craziness. Delighted still to be pregnant and have booked first midwife appointment which makes it feel more real. Still wearing all my very clingy workwear and not feeling like anyone will know anything yet – exercise is helping me maintain my body confidence and temporarily ward off the sick feeling. Not dreading getting a bump though – is the in between bit which is the hardest when everyone thinks you have just eaten a few extra pies!
Pregnancy Week 10

Week 10

Weight: 8st 10 (122lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 0
Waist: 26
Hips: 31
Bum: 35

Notes: We went on holiday to centreparcs this week so less rigid exercise but loads of activity! We cycled everywhere (and is hilly!), did a couple of gentle jogs, went swimming and walking and generally kept ourselves very active. Was great and feel good for it. Found some time to relax, sleep and chill out too.
Body: Although we were very active this week I ate like a bit of a pig so feel a bit wobbly; just the usual post holiday feeling! Clothes don’t feel tight yet, but can def see a bit of a lower belly bloat or growth – how exciting! The nausea has still been around this week, but a bit easier not being at work. Finding the best thing is to eat something quite plain every couple of hours. Feels like acid in the back of my throat. Hopefully won’t hang around too much longer.
What else? Lovely to have a few days away. Me and Cris had both been working very hard so was nice to have a few days together with some quailty time with Elise at centreparcs. She absolutley loved it as well! Was really nice to be outside on the bikes (luckily the weather was sunny but cool, great for cycling) and getting lots of fresh air. Weird to have a holiday without drinking lots of wine, but have come back feeling very refreshed! Had some time to think about the baby too which was nice, be so glad to get scans out of the way and hopefully find out everything is ok. Still feel a bit in limbo, like I am scared to get too excited.
Pregnancy Week 11

Week 11

Weight: 8st 10 (122lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 0
Waist: 26
Hips: 31
Bum: 35

Notes: Back to normal exercise routine and feeling good. Did two five mile jogs this week and three 30 minute resistance sessions. Trying hard to fit in my daily exercises – ab squeezes, bum squeezes and pelvic floors, but not always easy to remember or fit them in! Jogging still the only time I don’t feel nauseaus! Had a lovely weekend run, felt confident, comfortable and happy!
Body: I think my boobs have definitely got a bit bigger which I am very excited about (being very small chested normally!) I have also noticed my trousers feel a little bit tight, one pair of skinny jeans in particular! No drastic changes just ongoing sickness which is bad some days and times and not so bad other times. Strangely for morning sickness it seems at it worst after I have had my dinner in the evening. The tiredness seems to have gone away a bit (although dark, winter mornings are never fun!)
What else? Very excited to have first midwife appointment this week even though I know it is just admin and filling out a hundred forms (even more than last time!) It somehow makes it feel a bit more real. Also counting the days until the scan now which is taking up a lot of headspace. Am so desperate for everything to be ok so that I can tell everyone including telling Elise she’s going to have a little brother or sister! She is so sweet with her baby doll at the moment, I hope she’d be the same with a real one. Is an odd time before you start to really show, you just feel sort of different but everyone around you just carries on as normal. Fingers crossed for next week then the real excitement can begin!
Pregnancy Week 12

Week 12

Weight: 8st 11 (123lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 1
Waist: 26.5
Hips: 31
Bum: 35

Notes: Things conspired against me a little bit this week – the weather was hideous with storm force winds and rain so not really suitable for running and I had to work an extra day at work so not as good as usual. Still did 2 lots of 3-plan, daily exercises, 1 x 30 min session on cross trainer and a 50 min run.
Body: Starting to notice a few little changes – definite bump (although looks more like bloating at the moment!) Chest have grown an inch, hurrah! I feel a bit blobbier, but I remember this from last time. You feel like you are getting big even though no one else can see any difference – the mind games of pregnancy – very cruel! I don’t like it when I have a week where I can’t exercise as much as I would like, but as long as I stay consistent in the long run a couple of sessions off don’t really matter.
What else? I was very lucky to have an early scan this week – one of the only perks of working at the hospital! It was a very quick ‘put your mind at rest’ scan, but long enough to see a little heart beating and make sure the measurements were all ok. I was so terrified going up there I thought my belly was going to be empty or something worse! I was SO relieved that everything was ok, what a weight lifted! Looking forward to proper scan next week with Cris; definitely makes it feel real! Really full on week at work which has taken it out of me, the award ceremony was a late one and then work the next day. Missed Elise too. Feeling ok on the whole, although nausea still bad at times. Eating every couple of hours to keep it at bay. Trying to stick to fruit but not always successful! Feel even more happy and confident with exercise now I have had the scan. Let’s hope trimester 2 brings a straightforward few months.
Pregnancy Week 13

Week 13

Weight: 8st 12 (124lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 2
Waist: 27
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35

Notes: My tum has started to feel a little bit achy with growing type pains and now I have a little bump I am going to swap sit-up style exercises for daily and 3-Plan core work. Will miss my sit-ups (believe it or not!) Moving on to 3-Plan T2 exercises so nice to change things up, always a new challenge!
Body: The whole leakage thing gave a me a real fright, especially now I am starting to feel pregnant. Not in any exact way, but just am. Tum is a little bit round and boobs still aching a bit. Nausea definitely starting to subside so that’s really nice, lets hope trimester 2 is straightforward, happy and comfortable! Time to adapt my exercise a bit though. Running still feels great, but mindful of tum and quick transitioning as I get a bit dizzy. Still doing daily exercises and walking from car to work and back each day which is nice to help me wake up.
What else? Had a bit of a scare this week when I got off the bus I thought my waters had broken. I had been desperate for the loo and holding it a long time, but the sensation when I got off the bus wasn’t anything I felt before and certainly didn’t feel like I was weeing myself! It just made my knickers and tights wet (luckily I have spares of everything – been pregnant before!) I am very lucky to work in a hospital and a very kind obstetrician contact gave me a very quick scan – all was ok, thank god. Never been so happy to have wet myself, which must be what it was! Note to self – must remember pelvic floors every day! Is another thing to show every pregnancy is different with new sensations and ways the body will react. Just because first pregnancy was one way I won’t make any assumptions. Made me realise how much I love this baby already and am so happy am going to be mum again.
Pregnancy Week 14

Week 14

Weight: 8st 13 (125lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 3
Waist: 27
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35

Notes: Had a fab run this week – felt comfortable and happy and enjoyed every minute. Enjoying new 3-Plan exercises which take out sit ups and laying on back. Did 2 runs and 3 toning sesssions (one of which was DVD to mix things up).
Body: Every week my tum gets a little bit rounder, but am still in my normal clothes and not sure you would notice if you didn’t know yet. Feel like I am eating quite a lot but havent put on a lot of weight yet, probably because am still very active. Am happy as long as am putting on a healthy amount which at the moment should be about a pound a week so all good. Suffering from constipation a bit and my hair seems to be falling out, hope thats my imagination otherwise won’t have any left after baby comes!
What else? Had an extra appointment this week with the O&G consultant because Elise was a bit premature (1 day under 37 weeks but still triggered the process). The Consultant said this was no cause for worry but because of the fluid thing last week she gave me another very quick scan just to check all was ok. Was so lovely to see little baby again – all fine and wriggling! She said no concerns at all and don’t need to go back until 32 weeks so thats good. Me and Cris started talking a bit about baby names this week which seems a bit pointless before 20 week scan but can’t help it! Seem to have girls names coming out of our ears, but no boys names. Guess which it will be!! I would be equally happy with another little girl or boy as long as they are ok (cliched but true!) If its a boy we’ll have to do a HUGE carboot sale of our baby girl clothes!
Pregnancy Week 15

Week 15

Weight: 9 st 0 (126lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 5
Waist: 27
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35

Notes: We were away at Cris’s mums this weekend so tried to squeeze in all my exercise before we went. Weekend was relaxing but we did lots of walking so probably more active than a normal office week! Kept up my daily exercises, especially focussing on pelvic floors and abs now when no other option!
Body: Bump growing now, but is only noticeable in some clothes. Have noticed after being on my feet all day that my groin area gets quite achy. Is not a sharp pain and goes when I sit down but is quite uncomfortable. Good thing is, fine when am running and exercising! Might be where my hernia was during my first pregnancy if there is still a weakness there. Is slightly swollen on one side. Have been referred to have it looked at properly. Just hope I can stay active!
What else? Had a really nice weekend away with Cris’s family. Elise was really well behaved and I even managed to lay in until 9am on one day which is unheard of! It was pretty chilled but we did lots of outdoor things which was nice. Everyone totally adored Elise (I think she knows and acts even cuter on purpose!) which was nice and they are very excited about number two! I still forget I am pregnant sometimes, then I remember and it hits me all over again. I like this stage of pregnancy where I am still able to be really active, wear all my normal clothes and am feeling great. I know that doesn’t last forever! Clothes feeling a little bit tighter, but still ok. Mum noticed my bump, but no one else seems to. Getting excited already about second scan and finding out if is a boy or a girl – is ages away. Must enjoy the journey!

Pregnancy Week 16

Week 16

Weight: 9 st 1 (127lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 5
Waist: 28
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35

Notes: Had a good exercise week, still feeling comfortable doing 2×5 mile runs, just building in a couple of rests and taking the pace down a bit. Really making the effort to do core exercises every day as I know it will pay off later! Enjoying 3-Plan exercises, they feel like I am working just hard enough without pushing it too hard.
Body: Seem to have got into a pound a week weight gain in trimester 2 which is a good healthy rate of gain and what I had with pregnancy number 1. Although I know it is coming it’s still a bit of a shock to see my body changing. Main difference is belly (of course) but still feel like everything else is staying toned (for now at least). Exercise is helping me keep my body confidence and will make it lots easier to get back into shape later. Just hope nothing comes up that means I won’t be able to exercise.
What else? Back to work this week so felt a little bit tired getting back into the pattern of early starts but ok once I settled in. I also went along to the baby show on Friday in London with the FittaMamma girls to promote FM and sell my book. It was so nice to be able to talk to women about pregnancy exercise. It always suprises me how many women just arent interested – don’t you know all the benefits for you and your baby?! It’s everyones personal choice, but I would have very little sympathy for anyone complaining about being a fatty new mum if they had a really unhealthy and inactive pregnancy. Felt a bit exhausted on Thursday so rather than go out me and Elise just had an afternoon in the house which we rarely do. Was really relaxing, just what I needed and lovely to spend some time with her just reading, playing, watching TV and cooking. She’s so lovely to spend time with and makes me laugh a lot. Am very lucky.
Pregnancy Week 17

Week 17

Weight: 9 st 2 (128lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 6
Waist: 28
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35

Notes: Had a normal exercise week. Just about got my runs in because the weather was terrible – the trouble with this time of year! Now avoiding any ab twists or side bends as well as sit-ups, might make ab separation worse. Did my 3-Plan twice and kettlebell work out once. Might start wearing my ab support for running.
Body: Is funny that people keep saying I’m not showing yet because I feel like my tum is already big! Is the difference between looking at yourself with no clothes on and wearing very clever clothes that hang nicely over your fledgling bump! Have nearly reached the half stone mark but am hoping is going on the baby and not my bum! Have noticed quite a few varicose veins around my thighs and bum, more than last time. Hoping they will go when the baby comes. To be expected with increased blood volume and relaxing blood vessels.
What else? A pretty standard working week this week. Feeling pretty good, not too tired. Keep hoping to feel a bit of movement, but nothing yet. Still 3 weeks to go until the scan – I can’t wait! Desperate to know what we are having! Starting thinking about Christmas this week now that we are going into December – must start getting presents earlier this year. Elise already understands that her presents go to Father Christmas and that she has to wait for her pressies; think its going to be a good one this year. She is going to be sooooooooooooo excited! Weird to think that this time next year we will be a family of 4 – I hope…God I hope everything is ok. Become a bit obsessed with looking at photos and videos of baby bumps on the internet – there are millions for every week of pregnancy and boy do they vary? Really goes to show that every body and every pregnancy is different. Must try and celebrate our own bodies!
Pregnancy Week 18

Week 18

Weight: 9 st 3 (129lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 7
Waist: 28
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35

Notes: Again a good week for jogging. My pace is slow and steady but feels comfortable. Wore some ankle weights to do my 3-Plan which added some extra resistance. Also went out for a bike ride with Elise on the back as was such a nice day; that was quite hard work! Forgot how heavy she is!
Body: Think bump must be getting to the stage now where people are starting to notice. Still in my normal work skirt, but it sat loosely on my hips before and now sits snuggly high up on my waist! My maternity clothes are still too big though so will stick with a few in between basics. I am sure my hair is falling out – I thought it was meant to look lovely and thick in pregnancy. Seem to get a handful every time I was it. Hopefully is just temporary otherwise I won’t have any left once baby comes!
What else? Had quite a good week this week; starting to get a few Christmas pressies which is nice. Got myself into a bit of a panic as I bought a foetal heart rate monitor and couldn’t hear the heartbeat. Could hear a lot of noise though! Saw on the box it said from 20 weeks so maybe just a bit early. Felt some movements following evening though so that made me very happy. Just like a bit of gurgling around and light moves under my finger tips – nearly cried!! Cris thought it was funnny to listen to the cats purring with the monitor – men eh?! It was actually pretty cool….Feeling healthy and happy and fit at the moment. Just hope it continues. Trying to enjoy it. Found out Mel is having number 2 as well which is best news ever! So happy to have best friend to share it with and really happy for her. Good things do happen! Will be lovely for our kiddies to grow up together too.
Week 19 Pregnancy

Week 19

Weight: 9 st 3 (129lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 7
Waist: 28
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35

Notes: I have started wearing my ab support for running now. Only thing is it goes under bump and squeezes my bladder so I need to go for more wees! Jogging still slow and steady, 2 runs this week, one for 50 mins, one for an hour. All good. Still doing 3-Plan with ankle weights and doing daily ab squeezes.
Body: No drastic body changes this week – no changes in measurements or weight and clothes feel about the same. Probably a good thing, but no change always makes me panic! Still feeling quite happy and confident as we approach the half way point but the big changes are yet to come!
What else? Had a nice run on Saturday and Cris took Elise out so I had a nice soak in the bath and a facepack. Little things like that are such a treat these days. Could see heartbeat in my tum pulsating in the bath which I thought was really nice. Doing hypnobirthing a few times a week and enjoying getting back in to it. Am excited about the birth already!
Pregnancy Week 20

Week 20

Weight: 9 st 4 (130lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 8
Waist: 28
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35

Notes: Went Christmas shopping for the day on Monday so missed run but spent whole day on feet! Did 2 longer resistance sessions, 45 mins each as struggled to find 3 days with a time gap! Running still ok and still doing an hour on Saturdays which is about 6 miles. Having a little walk half way through.
Body: Still havent had to venture into the maternity wear drawer yet, but having to put more bits away in my ‘skinny drawer’ every week! That’s all the motivation I need to keep up my exercising; all my nice clothes! Bump got a nice round shape now and a couple of people at work actually noticed for the first time. Still might look like have just got a bit of a belly to the untrained eye! My hair feels a bit limp and have felt tired this week. What else? The 20 week scan is finally here and thankfully everything is as it should be, am so relieved! Was lovely to see the baby again, we found it quite moving even though should be used to them by now. And is another girl! I knew it was, mums intuition and all that. I would have been happy if it was a boy or a girl, but because I was so convinced it was a girl had already thought about it a lot and thought about how nice it will be. Elise and another little troublemaker – what teenage years we have ahead!! I hope Elise will be happy. Will save us lots of money too as we have so many girls clothes! Is quite scary when they are doing the scan and you can see the heart chambers, brain and spine. Makes you realise how easy there could be something wrong. Is lovely to hear them say everything looks normal. Can start thinking about names now, how exciting!
Pregnancy Week 21

Week 21

Weight: 9 st 5 (131lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 9
Waist: 28
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35.5

Notes: Had a really good week of resistance training, did 2 x 45 minute sessions instead of 3 but got really stuck in! Am still wearing my ankle weights and going my ab exercises every day. Bit boring but hoping it will pay off later. Running still good. Was raining and cold this week so no danger of overheating!
Body: How pregnant I look definitely depends on choice of outfit! I guess that makes sense! Still not big enough to look good in maternity clothes (they still just hang) so wearing lots of nice tight jumpers and leggings to show off my little bump! Body wise feeling ok, but hernia grumbling from time to time. Am still waiting for referral to see the surgeon about it. I think I look tired.
What else? Still getting used to the idea of having another girl, but very happy. Is funny thinking back to being pregnant the first time. It felt quite challenging at the time but I had so much more time for rest and exercise and planning and shopping. Having a toddler now that all goes out the window! Am managing ok at the moment, but am sure as I get bigger and pregnancy progresses I will have a few energy slumps! Lucky that on the whole Elise is a really good girl, especially compared to some other toddlers I know. She has started having a few tantrums and can be quite demanding, but I think a lot of it is because she doesn’t know how to express herself yet. She is lovely to spend time with and funny and clever. Shes also really caring which I hope will help when the baby comes. I just try to keep calm when she goes off on one and think it’s easier than 2 going off at the same time – that is to come!
Week 22 Pregnancy

Week 22

Weight: 9 st 6 (132lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 10
Waist: 28
Hips: 31.5
Bum: 35.5

Notes: Unfortunately my groin hernia is getting a bit uncomfortable. Have decided to cut out jogging altogether to be completely safe, plus bump was starting to feel heavy running too. Will do cross trainer/cycle and toning instead. Still aiming for 3 x 30-40 minute sessions rather than 2 longer ones, which is what I did this week. Bloomin pregnancy ailments!
Body: Feels like bump is growing quite quickly now, suddenly feel like I look quite pregnant! Like last week hernia is causing a bit of discomfort. That coupled with the veins down below make my poorly girls bits feel quite achy and sore by the end of the day. Pregnancy isn’t a walk in the park!
What else? Had a really lovely Christmas! Was quite quiet, but had some time to relax which was nice. Good old mum hosted on Christmas day and boxing day so felt very well looked after. Bit rubbish not being able to drink but at least I didn’t have the 3 day Christmas hangover I normally have! Saw the midwife and baby seems fine – good size etc. She was quite dismissive about my hernia and veins though, just told me to go to the doctors. Sometimes feels like unless something that will affect the baby then no need to worry as mum will just soldier on (probably true!) Bit gutted I have had to stop jogging for now, but I am always saying during pregnancy you need to adapt your exercise as your pregnancy progresses and listen to your body so that’s what I am doing.
Week 23 Pregnancy

Week 23

Weight: 9 st 6 (132lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 10
Waist: 29
Hips: 32
Bum: 35.5

Notes: Felt a bit achy round the pelvis this week for the first time while running. From next week am going to try shorter runs (around 30 mins instead of 50) and maybe do 2 or 3 a week or mix in with cross trainer and cycle. Love running and want to keep it up but the main thing is to be safe and adapt as bump gets bigger and it doesn’t feel right for you any more.
Body: Bump is still nice and compact this week. No sign of the dreaded stretchmarks yet, but there is still plenty of time!! Had 3 giant spots which seem to be taking ages to go away – odd! Am really constipated, went 5 days without going then is really painful when it does happen. I had this last pregnancy so will talk to the midwife about getting something to help. Also have got some varicose veins down below which are quite uncomfortable sometimes too. Also had those last time. No wonder have been feeling a bit rubbish this week!
What else? Feeling tired this week and got a few niggles with the toilet delays and varicose veins! Has been a lot going on at home and at work and trying to get ready for Christmas means I have been rushing around like a mad thing! Am happy with every week that passes and everything is still ok. I have a really strong feeling that this little girly is going to be early. Getting very excited but having some trouble sleeping thinking about all the things to get ready after Christmas. I know the weeks are just going to fly by and there is lots to do and sort out. I like to be organised with everything, is the main thing that keeps me sane.
Week 24 Pregnancy

Week 24

Weight: 9 st 7 (133lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 11
Waist: 29
Hips: 33
Bum: 35.5

Notes: Managed to get all my toning sessions in, but again think the time has come to adapt running programme. I did my usual long run from home on Monday but then just 30 mins at the weekend and 30 mins on cross trainer to mix it up. I just suddenly feel a bit heavier and more awkward running.
Body: Bump has grown an inch this week and I have really noticed it! As it grows my veins and hernia seem to get a little bit more uncomfortable which is to be expected I guess. The rest of my body still looks ok, but am just starting to feel a bit wobbly! Whether anyone else would notice or not I don’t know. Am proud of my bump and like to show it off in nice tight clothes. Using body oil once or twice a day to ward off the dreaded stretch marks, lets hope it does the job, was lucky last time!
What else? The week before Christmas has been mad! Life is always quite hectic but even more so this week! Elise has been a bit poorly this week – she has been coughing loads at night and I think her last teeth might be coming through. Just hope she feels better for Christmas. Had to take a half day off work to wrap presents which of course was nowhere near long enough. I love Christmas, just a shame has to be so rushed. Lots to do after Christmas but determined to chill out a bit over the next couple of weeks.
Week 25 Pregnancy

Week 25

Weight: 9 st 7 (133lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 11
Waist: 29
Hips: 33
Bum: 35.5

Notes: Unfortunately my groin hernia is getting a bit uncomfortable. Have decided to cut out jogging altogether to be completely safe. Will do cross trainer/cycle and toning instead. Still aiming for 3 x 30 minute sessions rather than 2 longer ones, which is what I did this week. Bloomin pregnancy ailments!
Body: Feels like bump is growing quite quickly now, suddenly feel like I look quite pregnant! Like last week hernia is causing a bit of discomfort, particularly towards the end of the day. That coupled with the veins down below make my poorly girls bits feel quite achy and sore by the end of the day. Pregnancy isn’t a walk in the park! Unlike when women get sick you can’t readily share some of the other fanny-related discomforts of later pregnancy!
Sometimes feels like unless something that will affect the baby then no need to worry as mum will just soldier on (probably true!) Bit gutted I have had to stop jogging for now, but I am always saying during pregnancy you need to adapt your exercise as your pregnancy progresses and listen to your body so thats what I am doing.
Week 26 Pregnancy

Week 26

Weight: 9 st 8 (134lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 12
Waist: 29
Hips: 33.5
Bum: 35.5

Notes: Went away to London for new year so not as much time to exercise. Still did a couple of good sessions on my cross trainer though and even if anything else is diffucult I do my daily ab squeezes – after all this is the area that needs most attention
Body: Have to really strap up my groin hernia when am exercising now. Only problem is makes my veins worse so helps one problem and hinders another! Anyway, have a referral to talk to someone at the hospital about the hernia soon so can get some advice. Bump seem to be growing by the day! Measurements say I am smaller than last time but don’t feel it!
What else? Went to London for new year to see the in-laws for a few days. Was really nice to see everyone and felt like another Christmas. Elise loved getting spoilt all over again! We had our own room which was lovely but didnt get much sleep for 3 nights so come away pretty tired. At least I didnt have to factor hangovers into the mix as well! A new year with no alcohol (OK one small glass of fizz) was a strange experience! I still miss my glasses of wine, I know a lot of women go off it, not me unfortunately! Now am in 3rd trimester I have 1 or 2 small glasses a week with food. I think the main thing is not to do anything to excess. Back to work next week – 10 week until maternity leave and counting!
Week 27 Pregnancy

Week 27

Weight: 9 st 9 (135lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 13
Waist: 29
Hips: 33.5
Bum: 35.5

Notes: I am starting to adapt my exercise routine moving into trimester 3, making sure I keep up lots of walking, daily abs and PFs and my 3-Plan to keep me toned 2 or 3 times a week. I am using my cross trainer a couple of times a week too, but using it as a cycle to mix it up as well. Always listening to my body.
Body: Saw the consultant about my hernia this week and tuns out is not a hernia at all! Is a collection of large swollen veins under the skin in my groin causing a big lump. Not that surprised as my veins are bad all over this time – back of legs, bum and lady bits. God I hope they go soon after baby arrives! Bit upset to hear that there isnt really anything I can do to ease the symptoms other than rest (yeah right!). At least some regular gentle exercise will help boost circulation, but having to modify wide legs moves to narrower to make them more comfortable.
What else? OMG it has been hard getting back to work after Christmas! I mean it’s always hard, but had got used to waking up 7-7.30am and lolling about and I suddenly have to be up before 6 and starting the military operation that is my morning routine! Elise has been a bit under the weather too, which means she doesnt want to go anywhere! Glad to have spoken to someone about my groin swelling, but feel a bit down that I just have to put up with it. Everyone talks about nausea and achy backs during pregnancy but no one wants to talk about swollen painful veins in your lady bits! And I dont blame them! Can’t believe am at trimester 3 already – the time is flying and I feel like there is loads to do with decorating Elise’s room and sorting the house and baby bits.
Week 28 Pregnancy

Week 28

Weight: 9 st 11 (137lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 15
Waist: 29
Hips: 33.5
Bum: 36

Notes: In light of diagnosis and advice from consultant last week I have adapted my exercise to still do plenty of walking, core exercises and PFs. Also, some gentle cross training and static cycling (helps with circulation) and adapted 3-Plan exercises. Still doing around 3 hours a week, not including walking.
Body: Some days I feel really huge and other days I feel quite small! It depends a lot on what I am wearing to what people say. In 2 different outfits on the same day I got told I looked huge and then tiny! I still think the rest of me is ok as I am still keeping up regular activity. My bum feels a bit wobbly, but my arms and legs still look ok at the moment. Been a bit spotty this week and hard to sleep, have lots to think about! Bit worried about getting my flat tum back later, but doing everything I can to keep my core and abs strong safely. Daily exercise for them is the key.
What else? Been a bit of a struggle this week with very achy groin and finding it so hard to sleep. Cris took us out for dinner on Sunday night then I had a bath, little things like that help a lot. The house is in choas because we are decorating Elise’s new bedroom so have had to move everything out of it. Is very exciting though. I hope she likes it and has time to settle before the baby comes. Feel like I constantly have a lot on my mind and lists to write and things to think about. I have a feeling that the baby will be early but hopefully not too early as too much to do! Lots of kicking from baby and can see little arms popping out, makes it very real!
Week 29 pregnancy

Week 29

Weight: 9 st 12 (138lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 16
Waist: 29.5
Hips: 33.5
Bum: 36

Notes: Still really enjoying my resistance training doing the modified 3-Plan and core exercises. Walking and cardio is moderate now but still enough to make me feel like I am getting a circulation boost and a few endorphins. The main thing in the third trimester is to keep mobile and keep the key muscles strong.
Body: Not sleeping well at all at the moment – getting up loads of times for the toilet, very hard to get comfy and she seems to want to have a party just as I go to bed every night! I think my bump is still fairly compact compared to average, which is probably due to paying lots of attention to getting a strong core before and during pregnancy, it is solid as a rock!
What else? Once again a bit of a struggle with painful lady bits and achy legs to boot, but keeping mobile. One of the hardest things when you get into trimester 3 is keeping up exercise. Motivation gets lower as every day tasks get harder. It’s important to remember that staying active will help you have your baby on time and help it engage in your pelvis. Also, if you stop exercising in the late stages of pregnancy all those hard earned benefits will be lost. Try to strike a balance. Keep active in your every day life, exercise regularly and moderately and try to keep your muscles, core and pelvic floor strong. If you have a regular exercise routine then on the days you are too tired to do anything other than fall asleep or have a bath you can just relax. Long term habit and consistency are the key.
Week 30 Pregnancy

Week 30

Weight: 9 st 12 (138lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 16
Waist: 29.5
Hips: 34
Bum: 36

Notes: I did a couple of good sessions on my cross trainer this week which is proving brilliant because it doubles up as a bike so I can sit down and pedal when I want. Making a point of doing ab exercises religiously every day as will be the hardest thing to get back into shape afterwards. Did 3-plan 3 times as well.
Body: Had another week of ups and downs. Had a bit of bleeding and had to go and get checked out at the hospital. Was only a little bit but didn’t want to take any chances. They put me on a monitor, did lots of tests and looked at my cervix. Luckily all ok and they dont know what caused the bleeding but very relieved all ok. Had the full MOT! They were great and said its always best to be on the safe side as in some cases bleeding can be something serious.
What else? The bleeding and leg pain last week had made me decide I need to slow down a bit and really think about the baby. A scare will do that to you! I’m going to talk to my boss next week about cutting down my hours at work and find as much time to relax as to exercise! Mum and Cris are being very supportive and have bothe been worried have been overdoing it a bit. Going to do more hypnobirthing and looking forward to the refresher course in a couple of weeks. Its definitely harder when you have a toddler to look after as well. I dont want her to notice any difference and she is very energetic! Luckily she quite likes snuggling up and watching films too so we are doing that as well. Is not long to go now and am determined to try and enjoy the last few weeks and take life down a gear….
Week 32 Pregnancy

Week 31

Weight: 9 st 13 (139lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 17
Waist: 29.5
Hips: 34
Bum: 36

Notes: Did a couple of sessions on my gym ball this week for a change. Blimey that’s not an easy workout! You can tell its great for keeping your core strong though because everything you do on it requires you to stabilise yourself. Will mix and match with 3-Plan and cross trainer/cycling for next few weeks.
Body: Unfortunately my varicose veins down below are still causing a lot of discomfort. One night the pain in one of them was so sharp that I could hardly get out of bed! They seem to be a bit better once I am up and about, but really bad at the end of a day at my desk. Body wise some days I feel huge and some days not too bad. My hair has suddenly gone a bit limp so might have to bring hairdressers forward a bit!
What else? Cris has been away for a couple of days at a conference so have been staying with mum and dad which has been really nice. Has felt like a little holiday and mum made me a couple of lovely dinners and looked after me which was much appreciated. The vein thing is getting me down a bit, but just trying to help myself as much as possible and be thankful that everything is well with the baby. Been a bit hectic with Elise this week as we have been doing potty training and hopefully moving her into her bedroom, but they were 2 things if possible I really wanted to be settled before baby comes along. We’ll see how it goes. We are getting through A LOT of wet knickers at the moment!! (thats her not me!)
Week 31 Pregnancy

Week 32

Weight: 10st (140lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 18
Waist: 29.5
Hips: 34
Bum: 36

Notes: Back to doing 3-plan this week and enjoying cross trainer. Felt a bit more energetic some days this week, but other days completely exhausted! It is so important at this stage to try and keep up some regular activity but listen to your body as well.
Body: Varicose veins down below are still painful. They get much worse at the end of the day, particularly after sitting at desk all day. Best cure seems to be a mix of light exercise, laying down, lots of sleep and not sitting or standing still for too long. Have also got ice packs and paracetemol. Other than that all going very smoothly! Not sure I feel like I have bloomed this pregnancy, although exercise still gives me a real lift and confidence boost, thank god for endorphins!
What else? Ok so the potty training didn’t really happen, but am not sweating it. Shes just not ready yet. Happy to wait until the weather gets nicer and she starts to understand better when she needs to go. No point in forcing the issue. She LOVED her new room and single bed! Felt quite emotional moving her from the nursery to her big girls room, but was the right time. Had my hypnobirthing refresher course this week which was great. Feel really motivated to do it properly again and will make time to practice. Just hope the birth goes smoothly again and gives me a second chance to put it all into practice.
Week 33 Pregnancy

Week 33

Weight: 10st 1 (141lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 19
Waist: 29.5
Hips: 34
Bum: 36

Notes: Now I have cut down on my working hours I can do exercise little and often – 30 mins on cross trainer or with weights. Nice to be able to do something every day. Also, the sun has been shining which is lovely so have done lots more walking. Wearing my bump support religiously now!
Body: Feeling a bit more positive this week, is definitely helping not being at work so much. Sitting all day was making everything so much more painful. My bump is well and truly out now and seems to be growing at a fast rate! People at work keep saying ‘havent you got big’ and its like ‘well there’s a 17 inch, 3 and a half pound human in my tummy!’ All society niceties seem to go out the window. Determined to try and embrace my big belly in the last few weeks, keeping active and keeping happy.
What else? Only a couple of weeks left to go at work now which is quite scary! It has come round so quickly! I had a consultant appointment this week and she said that baby is bang on average size and looking really healthy from what they can see on the scans – very happy. She looked at my veins and said that although they are painful there’s not much that can be done other that to manage the symptoms and discomfort. They’ll keep an eye on them during labour just to make sure they dont pose any danger if I need intervention. Doing hypnobirthing practice nearly every day and feeling really excited about the birth. Really want a couple of weeks to myself after finishing work this time though – 37 weeks on the nose would be perfect!
Week 34 Pregnancy

Week 34

Weight: 10st 2 (142lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 21
Waist: 30
Hips: 34.5
Bum: 36

Notes: Still managing to do some exercise nearly every day whether it is 30 minutes on cross trainer or cycling or walking or 30-40 mins of resistance training. I think little and often is good at this stage to keep everything strong and mobile. Happy when I have done a workout, but can be quite difficult to motivate now!
Body: Feeling like the bump is doubling in size every day! Don’t feel too bad aside from huge tum. My arms and upper body still feel toned and my legs look ok, maybe a bit wobblier around the bum area; I miss my running! I know a few extra pounds are to be expected. The varicose veins still look hideous but am not finding them as bad since am not doing such long stretches at my desk. Still using body oil morning and night like a giant greasy chip!
What else? Is my last week at work this week which is all a bit strange. Feels a bit surreal. It will be really nice to get up a bit later and not have to do the commute in, which has felt a bit of a drain lately. I must make the most of my maternity leave, especially over the Spring/Summer. After all, probably no more babies after this one and will never get the best part of 9 months off work again! Will miss my workmates though and miss feeling like a grown up going into work with my nice clothes and hair and make up done. Makes you remember you have lots to offer aside from being a mum, which must be good for everyone.
Week 35 Pregnancy

Week 35

Weight: 10st 2 (142lbs)
Weight change: 0
Weight total: 21
Waist: 31
Hips: 34.5
Bum: 36

Notes: Now I have started maternity leave it is much easier to fit my exercise in. Am doing shorter duration, 20-30 mins, but every day. Also still trying to fit in some walking and ab and pelvic floor exercises every day. Always feel better once I have exercised, but feel tired so quite hard to get going some days!
Body: Same as last week really. My bump seems to be growing at a rate of an inch a week – help! Is weird to see your body changing in such a dramatic way but amazing when you think about what is going on in there. Been a bit spotty this week. Will be interesting to see how my body reacts to baby number 2; really hope it snaps back like it did last time. I have put lots of hard work into keeping myself healthy, strong and fit, when it would have been so easy to let it all go. Nothing in life is easy
What else? Work is finished now and I feel like it was the right time. Feel tired from when I get up most days! And no lay ins with a 2 and a half year old! Saw the midwife and she told me all looking good. Baby is growing as she should be and has started to engage in my pelvis. Position and size looking good anyway. Started to think about birth now. Am really excited. Desperate to get to 37 weeks and have the pool free so I can have a water birth. What will be will be I guess. Enjoying my hypnobirthing practice and hoping it does the job again second time around. Been cleaning, painting and organising and feel just about ready now. Now it would be nice to have 2 weeks at least to myself!
Week 36 Pregnancy

Week 36

Weight: 10st 3 (143lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 21
Waist: 31
Hips: 34.5
Bum: 36

Notes: There have been a couple of days when I have had a twinge in my pelvis on my cross trainer, so when that happens I always rest; remember to always listen to your body! Still managing to do something most days though, building in short walks when I can, 3-Plan exercises and regular bursts on my cross trainer/cycle. Must try and keep going until the end!
Body: Not suffering from the varicose veins as much this week again. Much better to be able to rest and elevate my legs when I need to coupled with some gentle exercise. My bump still feels huge to me, but when I look at my measurements from the first pregnancy am smaller all over which is suprising. Hope that means I won’t have too much trouble with recovery and shifting a few pounds. Have put on one and a half stone now which feels about right. Have been trying to eat healthily. Still having the odd treat though of course, but I do that anyway!
What else? Have started to get small electric shock type pains in my bits and inner thigh this week. I had these before Elise arrived. They are little nerve twinges where the baby is pressing on cervix or nerves in lower back. Think is a good sign though! Am hoping baby doesnt come before 37 weeks though! I have just got to the point where I feel pretty much organised so I can actually rest when Elise is at mums or nursery. Another week or two of that would be lovely! We are making extra effort to do nice things with Elise before the baby comes and give her lots of attention. Have wrapped some pressies from the baby to give her too. Got a day planned with just me and Cris in a couple of days to have probably our last bit of real couple time for a while so really looking forward to that. Finding it harder than last time to switch off from work, but I’m sure I’ll manage!
Week 37 Pregnancy

Week 37

Weight: 10st 5 (145lbs)
Weight change: 2
Weight total: 23
Waist: 31
Hips: 35
Bum: 36

Notes: Still exercising most days and finding it ok. Now am approaching term I count a long walk (30-60 mins) as exercise for that day with daily abs and pelvic floor. Carrying the extra weight means that feels like a workout! Fitting in 3-plan and DVD toning and short sessions of cross trainer.
Body: Been getting lots of twinges like last week and bump looks very low. Some days I still feel really good and other days totally limp! The joys of late pregnancy! Couple of pounds on this week. Not eating like a pig so hoping it is water. That happened with Elise at the end, a good sign? Still no stretch marks, but am sure will have to work hard to get my firm flat tummy back! Am ready for the challenge!
What else? I feel ready now. I would love for her to arrive bang on 37 weeks. Very much doubt will be so lucky! Getting a bit fed up with feeling tired and achy. Saw midwife. All good and baby gone from 4/5 to 2/5 so moving down! Sleeping is not good, but at least am getting in to practice! I feel like every ache and pain is the start of labour. Am really excited about it starting. Have been doing hypnobirthing practice every day and with my exercise I feel mentally and physically ready. Have been having some lovely time with Elise, so that would be a good thing about being a bit later. Hope I can manage ok with her and the baby and she carries on being so lovely and happy. Hoping things might start at night otherwise Cris has to get back from London. Please no train delays! Hard to plan anything now, taking one day at a time. That’s going to be my motto from now on!
Week 38 Pregnancy

Week 38

Weight: 10st 6 (146lbs)
Weight change: 1
Weight total: 24
Waist: 31
Hips: 35
Bum: 36

Notes: Have had a trapped nerve in my back on and off for a couple of days so frustrating not to be able to exercise as much. Still trying to do little and often and walking, but is becoming increasingly uncomfortable. Determined not to give up now.
Body: Starting to feel enormous now! Had Elise by now so this 37 weeks onwards is unchartered territory! My bump is still growing and feels very low. My activity has to be little and often now and I am making more time to rest (thanks to mum and Cris) when body feels a bit achy. Exercise still gives me a great boost though and funnily enough I always have more energy after doing some. My legs feel like they are getting bigger, water I hope! I forgot what a drastic transformation your body goes through.
What else? Have found it quite hard this week coping with aches and pains and looking after Elise. Feel a bit bad that I haven’t been able to do quite as much with her as I normally would, but Cris keeps telling me to give myself a break. She seems ok watching films, painting and making cakes. Feel on edge most of the time like every twinge and pain is the start of labour! I am more than ready now! I hope it happens when Cris is here so he doesn’t have to get back from London. Have got that later pregnancy feeling of just feeling quite big and tired, happens to everyone I reckon. Still trying to make the most of the quiet time I do have. Very excited about birth and baby coming. Not so excited about seeing what my body is going to look like once she’s out!
Week 39 Pregnancy

Week 39

Weight: 10st 8 (148lbs)
Weight change: 2
Weight total: 26
Waist: 32
Hips: 35
Bum: 36

Notes: Still exercising! Am taking each day at a time. Some days am too tired and uncomfortable to move much at all and other days I still feel really energetic and able to cross train and do my weights. I even managed a day out shopping (LOTS of walking) for mum’s birthday. Definitely listening to my body and feeling lifted by a workout.
Body: I am hoping this week’s weight gain, like last week is water retention rather than rapid fat retention! My knees and thighs are quite swollen now, which is what happened the week before I had Elise. My bump hasn’t actually grown this week, but am sure the baby is still fattening up nicely! Still using body oil on bump 2 or 3 times a day to try and keep stretch marks at bay. Please dont let me get them now! Lots of people have told me my bump is still compact which is nice, but to me it feels huge. Getting socks and shoes on is pretty tricky now!
What else? Well, here we are, baby still here another week on. Clearly this little girl isnt as keep to get out as Elise was! Every day I have had some kind of feeling or twinge or sign that labour is starting. Your body can be very cruel sometimes; bit like when you think you are pregnant and read something into every sign. Am completely ready to meet her now. Everything is ready at home and I am really excited about the birth so hoping she will decide to make an appearance soon. Still staying active when I can to encourage baby to get into the right position and avoid going overdue. I thought that would never happen, but have had to rethink after thinking I was going to be really early!
Week 40 pregnancy

Week 40

Weight: 11st 5 (159lbs)
Weight change: 11!!
Weight total: 37
Waist: 33
Hips: 36.5
Bum: 37

Notes: OMG it has been a hard week! Still trying to do bits and bobs – walks of 20-40 mins, short sessions on cross trainer and some toning, but some days am very tired and uncomfortable! The huge amount of water retention hasn’t helped. Also have had trapped nerve in my back on and off which has been excruciating at times.
Body: I have ballooned! 11 pounds in one week! And it can’t be proper weight gain because I can hardly eat anything! My stomach is so squished up I have been having much smaller portions. My thighs look like they are made of marshmallow, I can see the water sitting on them. I really hope this all goes after the baby comes, feel like someone has filled me up like a water balloon! Been feeling a bit down this week, am much bigger than last time and painful back has been restrictive.
What else? I never thought I would get to term! I now realise how lucky I was last time to miss out on the last month of pregnancy! I’m afraid to say that I havent enjoyed the last week very much. Aside from suddenly being swollen and enormous I have had real trouble sleeping due to very sharp back pain and feel tired and sick a lot of the time. I am doing my best to help baby come out, still exercising as much as I can, but seems like it’s hardest when you need it the most. Was a bit worried about such rapid water retention but midwife did all the checks this week and seems like is just another treat for me, nothing is wrong. I am soooooooo ready for this baby now! Cris and my parents have been amazing helping me out when my back has been very painful. Very lucky to have them. Must be really hard for anyone managing this stage by themselves, especially if they have a toddler too! Fingers crossed for an arrival this week!

The week leading up to labour…..

From Monday I had so much pain in my back. It felt like a nerve was being squeezed in my back to the point where I cold hardly move, couldn’t sleep or even lay down and didn’t eat for 2 days. Also didn’t poo or wee for last 2 days of pregnancy! My legs also had so much fluid in them, they were 4 times the size! Cris had to move me! I became very immobile and upset and felt like my belly was under so much pressure it was going to explode. I went to to the hospital twice because I was so worried about the back pain, but they couldn’t really help as it was all related to the position of the baby getting ready for birth. I was so ready for baby to be born!

Labour day…..

On the Friday my back pain had reached a peak. Cris took the day off work because I told him I felt like I was gearing up for labour. Also my back was so painful I needed him to look after me. We went up to the hospital late morning and after examination they told me I was in very early stages of labour but only 3cm dilated. Because of bed shortages i was told to go home. I didn’t want to as the journey to and from the hospital was so uncomfortable, but it turned out to be very good advice.

Being so exhausted from previous week and with a couple of tablets from the hospital I slept for 3 hours then had a long bath. My back was still hurting but just felt a bit more awake! I felt like I was getting the start of labour so told cris we should go back to the hospital. We got back up there about 4pm.

About 4.30pm my waters broke in extreme style. There was sooooo much it flooded the room! My back immediately started to ease a tiny bit and I could feel the labour surges slowly building. My body must have been under so much pressure with all that fluid. The midwife couldn’t examine me after that but said that I didn’t seem to be in advanced labour so cris should probably go home. She said he could stay until I was settled on the antenatal ward. I think she didn’t think it was progressing that fast because I felt very calm and prepared and ready for labour. Totally relaxed and letting my body go with it.

The birth…..

We packed up and eventually got to the antenatal ward and I made it very clear that it was too late for cris to go home and can someone please examine me again! Around 7.30 i started to recognise the strong surges from when I had Elise and already had lots of pressure building in my bottom. I started listening to my hypnobirthing affirmations and songs and tried to breathe deeply through each surge. When I was examined the midwife said I was fully dilated and we should get to the delivery room quickly!

Once in the delivery room I carried on listening to my hypnobirthing scripts and music and moved through the peak of surges to my body really feeling the need to push. I stood up braced on the edge of the bed for delivery. This part took about 20 minutes. I breathed the baby down as much as possible but the urge to push when she was on the edge was overwhelming. After a couple of pushes the head was born, which was pretty burning and painful, but after that the body came easily.

Mya Jane Coxon was born at 10.47 after around 3-4 hours of real labour weighing 7 pound 14, exactly on her due date. i had a small tear but didn’t need any stitches or aftercare. The placenta was born shortly after her.

A couple of days on I am recovering quickly and and chuffed to bits to have had such a rewarding and smooth delivery with no pain relief. My hypnobirthing music will stay with me forever and makes me very emotional!

I plan to build up exercise slowly over the next 6 weeks as per the 3-plan xxx

So delighted that Mya is home and well, am very happy……I suppose I should go back to telling you about the exercise stuff!…..Bleeding heavily, passed tennis ball size blood clot which was pretty scary! Cris on leave so good sleep so far as he is helping loads during the night which is helping recovery. Swelling and water gone, thank god! Lots of wee! Started pelvic floor exercises and ab pull in straight away (well almost straight away!) but downstairs obviously still a bit sore from birth.Rapid weight loss, can’t believe 2 stone 3 pounds in a week! Must be all that fluid retention. Already doing 3-plan abs and pelvic floors and walking 30-60 mins every day. Happy days.

All going really well and Cris still on paternity leave. Exercise wise am doing the 3-plan and toning 3-4 times a week and lots of walking. No cardio as such yet. Lower abs are aching a bit so building up slowly. Another clot but bleeding slowing and have been reassured by midwife is nothing to worry about. My lady bits are starting to feel a bit better. Feeling very happy, almost like a bit of a holiday with Cris at home, we are hiding away in our little bubble!

Cris back to work so much less sleep!Back on cross trainer for 30 mins. Walk for an hour+ some days. Funny that I feel tired from being up in the night, but exercise gives me more energy and a real confidence boost (much needed).Feeling lots better. Body nearly back to normal, just ab and bum toning left, feeling a bit marshmallowy still! Using weights again. So happy to have lost baby weight, who ever says exercise in pregnancy isnt worth it should come and talk to me. You really do get much needed benefits as a new mum.

Everything is going really well. Mya is feeding and sleeping as well as I could ever hope! She is a really calm and chilled out baby, but quite cheeky with it, completely adorable.Finding my feet with a routine of sorts now with the 2 children, feels like I have always had 2 now!Exercise wise I have nothced up the cross trainer up to 40 mins. I did my first run for 30 mins and it felt good! I took it slowly and will certainly build up my time and distance very gradually, after all my pelvic floors have still got some recovering to do! Doing something every day, which is key. Paying special attention to abs and PFs. Even if I can only do a few minutes of exercise in a day I feel like I am keeping the momentum up and looking after myself. Consistency is crucial at this time.

Settled into routine a bit more now and Elise is getting more used to the fact that her baby sister is here to stay! She was quite jealous at the start but seems to want to help now, which is definitely preferable!Exercise wise I am feeling really strong and healthy. I am doing my pelvic floor exercises when I feed the baby (when I remember!) and still trying to do something every day, even if its still only a few minutes when the girls are asleep. I am doing the 3-Plan religiously and am back to running for 45 minutes. Will build that up gradually in 5 minute blocks so I know my body is ready to progress. Also finding that the constant cycle of feeding, milk, meals, sleeps, nappies, potty training and do activities (which take ages to prepare for with 2!) mean that I am pretty much always on the go. No chance of being a couch potato!
